VMware NSX® Micro-segmentation

The landscape of the modern data center is rapidly evolving. The migration from physical to virtualized workloads, the move towards software-defined data centers, the advent of a multi-cloud landscape, the proliferation of mobile devices accessing the corporate data center, and the adoption of new architectural and deployment models (e.g., micro-services and containers) are all driving a constant evolution.
Users request higher levels of agility and service efficiency without compromise. However, this evolution is not without peril, as the impact on security often ends up being an afterthought. The operational dexterity achieved through the ability to rapidly deploy new applications has overtaken the ability of traditional networking and security controls to maintain an acceptable security posture.
Additionally, there is a fundamental problem of traditionally structured security remaining inadequate even in conventional, static data centers.

Wade Holmes, VCDX#15, CISSP, CCSK, is a Senior Technical Product Manager within the VMware Networking and Security business unit and leads security architecture and solutions for the NSX Technical Product Management team.
Wade has been with VMware for seven years, and has over 19 years of industry experience working on products and solutions within complex computing environments of all scopes and sizes.

Wade’s previously published work includes co-authoring the VMware vCloud® Architecture Toolkit, and numerous whitepapers and design guides. Wade was the first external VMware Certified Design Expert in the world, fifteenth
overall, and is a VMware vExpert™.
